Hello from Clearwater Beach!

We arrived in Clearwater Beach, Fla. Friday evening and spent Saturday practicing on the beach. After running and doing push ups in the sand, the swimmers were grateful to know that we wouldn't hold practice at the beach every day!

Sunday we went to the Bradenton church where we were greeted by some familiar faces (including the Moffetts!). Swimming alumn Cheryl Howell and her family took us all out to lunch and then invited us to spend the afternoon at their home. They have an absolutely gorgeous home on the Mantee River and posed the challenge that the team swim across the river. Aaron and Stephanie accepted Cheryl's challenge and swam the mile open water swim while we trailed in the Howell's boat. It was great to meet such warm and generous individuals. We're so grateful that the Howells invited us to spend the day with them!

Monday we started practice at the Southwest Complex pool in Largo! It feels so good to be on a schedule that will last for the next two weeks. Four and a half hours of practice later, the team seems to be going to bed a bit earlier than the nights before. Our whole Florida crew is here now - Christina joining us this morning. We're excited for a great two weeks of training and competition. Friday we compete at the University of Tampa and Saturday at Florida Southern!

Thanksgiving in ATLANTA!

Here we are in the Atlanta area having Thanksgiving with the Fronzak's (Austin wasn't there, but he's in the picture because he's on Leslie's cell phone)! Some of the swimmers walked to a nearby park and posed for the camera. Thanks so much, Fronzaks, for a fabulous time in Atlanta and for all that you've done for us!

Jim Johnson

Thanks for the updates. It's nice to stay in touch with the progress of the team.
I saw the construction site this summer at my wife's reunion. Looks like it will be a great facility.

This week's swimmer of the meet is Jeff Ball. Jeff really raced his 200 freestyle, swimming to a new unshaved 2:00.38. He wasn't intimidated by the race at all and showed a glimpse of what lies ahead in his freestyle events. Following that race, Jeff attacked his 100 backstroke in a similar manner and was only one second off of his lifetime best. His 50 split in the last relay was the fastest leg. Working through a challenge all week, Jeff expressed such freedom today that it wasn't until I sat down to write this that I remembered the challenge! What a great demonstration!

Swimmer of the meet
This week's swimmer of the meet is Charlie Cariati. Charlie really stepped up his leadership yesterday both in and out of the water. He immediately came forward in the morning and offered to drive one of the vans to the meet - taking responsibility for that van. At the meet, his metaphysical standpoint was solid and it was reflected in his swimming. His 200 back was consistent and smooth. His 100 fly leg of the 400 medley relay looked stronger than ever before. And, he spent the day photographing and cheering for his teammates. We're grateful that Charlie is part of our team!

Swimmer of the meet:
Barbara Palmer is this week's swimmer of the meet. She showed tremendous leadership and maturity as she attacked her 200 backstroke. She rebounded nicely after a potential disappointment in her leg of the 400 Medley relay and refused to be shaken. Barbara's desire to bring joy to whatever she's doing makes her a much needed member of this team.
